Men, here’s a simple way to protect against prostate cancer – reduce estrogen from all sources! Did you know that having less estrogen and cortisol is critical to your health? Too much estrogen can kill your free testosterone levels!
Estrogen is known as a female hormone but it’s also found in small amounts in men. And your testosterone level is normally 10 times higher than your estrogen level. Furthermore, as you get older, this ratio can get out of balance.
Men in your 40s, you might find my story helpful – My prostate cancer diagnosis at 54. Also, does boosting testosterone increase your risk for prostate cancer.
Reduce Estrogen & Protect Against Prostate Cancer
Here’s what you need to know about reducing estrogen so you can protect against prostate cancer:
First, have your estrogen measured. Have a test taken to measure total estrogen in your blood. This is needed to measure the critical ratio of estrogen to testosterone. A ratio of 8 parts testosterone to 1 part estrogen is needed for maximum “manliness”. Athletes should have 10 to 1.
So your total estrogen should be less than 100. After determining your estrogen, here’s how to eliminate the problem.
8 Steps To Reduce Estrogen
1. Consume less alcohol
2. Eat hormone-free meat
3. Cut the fat off your meat before cooking (this is where chemicals and hormones can collect)
4. Drink purified water
5. Wash fruits and vegetables prior to eating them.
6. Avoid insulin-spiking refined carbohydrates like pasta and bread from your diet. Avoid refined sugar.
7. Eat more cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower which inhibit estrogen.
Protect against prostate cancer with DIM
The substance, DIM, occurs naturally as a compound in cruciferous vegetables. Take 200 – 400mg of DIM and 200mg of I3C once per day. One study actually showed DIM could slow prostate cancer cell growth. – See Trouble Free Prostate for more details.
Does DIM Lower Estrogen?
Bodybuilders who artificially raise their testosterone levels have used DIM for years to reduce estrogen and offset the estrogen increasing effects that boosting testosterone causes.
Men and estrogen is just not a good combination. Another hormone to control is cortisol. See Reduce Cortisol for tips on removing the effects of the stress hormone cortisol.
Myomin: Natural Hormone Balancer
An alternative to DIM is Myomin. Myomin is an herbal blend created to normalize estrogen levels in women and men. It works by helping to metabolize unhealthy estrogens and promoting proper hormone balance.
Myomin competes with estradiol (the most active form of estrogen) at estrogen receptor sites, and can be especially effective for estrogen dominance. It also inhibits the aromatase enzyme helping to stop the conversion of androgens into estrogen. See Energetic Nutrition to learn more.
(Help normalize estrogen levels by consuming organically produced protein. The Anti Estrogenic Diet by Ori Hofmekler and Defense Nutrition can help with this.)
What Causes Estrogen Dominance In Men?
. . . and how to get rid of man boobs.
Here’s what causes excess estrogen or estrogen dominance in men.
Too Much Estrogen From Excess Aromatase
As men get older, they produce more aromatase. Aromatase is an enzyme that converts testosterone to estrogen. A major cause for this increasing aromatase is excess body fat.
Zinc acts on aromatase and inhibits it from producing estrogen. So reduced zinc levels in your body can lead to an imbalance. American men typically are deficient in zinc. Also, alcohol and drug use reduce zinc making the estrogen problem worse.
Changes In Liver Function
The P450 system is the primary process for your liver to eliminate waste such as chemicals, hormones, and drugs. It’s critical to a man’s health. Additionally, this system also takes care of excess estrogen. If it’s not functioning properly, it can lead to excessive estrogen.
Zinc is also needed by the pituitary for testosterone production. Supplementing with zinc can help this deficiency.
Heavy alcohol drinking causes high estrogen levels in men. Actually, this is the case for both men and women. Further, for a woman, one drink can boost estrogen as much as 300%. For men it’s a significant increase though not as pronounced.
In addition, you may also get gynomastia (manboobs), spider veins, and even shrinking testes. Erectile dysfunction is also associated with this increase in estrogen from drinking.
Alcohol impairs the liver’s P450 processing system and can even reduce levels of zinc. Bottom line – reduce or eliminate the alcohol to avoid estrogen and protect against prostate cancer.
Being overweight and having low testosterone often go hand in hand. Body fat contains aromatase, which converts testosterone to estrogen. Obesity is a primary contributor to estrogen dominance.
Environment Contributes To Estrogen Dominance
Every day estrogen makes its way into your body. Sometimes it’s food. For example, animals are injected with estrogen to fatten them up. You’re likely getting some of this estrogen when you eat these animals.
Sometimes it’s personal care products. For example, shampoo, antiperspirant, and perfume can all contain estrogen-like substances. These are absorbed through your skin. On the other hand, it may be chemicals that mimic estrogen. Once absorbed or ingested, these estrogen-like chemicals can bind with hormone receptors in your body. Then they deliver messages to cells that produce negative results for men.

How Estrogen Can Affect Prostate Disease
Estrogen can affect prostate disease. Both testosterone and estrogen may be contributors. In fact, some consider the process of aging and the imbalance of hormones to be normal as we grow older.
Though in parts of Asia and some third world countries, prostate cancer is non-existent. Indeed, prostate disease appears to be the result of modern influences from our own technology.
Male aging, increasing estrogen, and the reduction of testosterone is the result of our environment. You can protect against prostate cancer with a few easy changes.

High estrogen levels in men increase the risk of prostate and testicular cancer. It causes excess fat build up hiding muscle definition (makes a man’s chest look like a woman’s). In addition, it can affect your mood, memory, and energy.
